Non-ferrous metals production steps up 7.5% in 2012

Production growth rate reduced 2.3 points if compared against 2011

China produced 36.96 million tons of the ten main non-ferrous metals in 2012, which means a year-to-year increment of 7.5% as reported by the China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA).

CNIA VP, said that the combined profits of the companies of the sector which report an annual income of more than 20 million of Yuans (US$3. 22 million) reached 166,600 million Yuans in 2012 which represents a 16.3% year-to-year reduction.

Materials processing sector profits increased in 75,400 million Yuans while in mining and refining companies earnings stepped down.

Jia added that the industry is still facing some challenges in connection with structural issues, some of which refer to pressures on environmental protection matters, energy conservation, resources guarantees, and production overcapacity.

The ten main non-ferrous metals produced in China are: copper, alumina, lead, zinc, nickel, tin, antimony, magnesium, titanium, and mercury.
