The Environmental Assessment Service (SEA) yesterday approved the Photovoltaic Park El Aguila II, which seeks to develop the Great Northern main generator E-CL, linked to the Franco-Belgian GDF Suez

The project will be located 60 km east of the city of Arica and includes an investment of approximately U.S. $ 100 million, with an installed capacity of 40 MW.

The Aguila II Park will be composed of about 160 000 photovoltaic modules and will have a generating capacity of about 115 GWh of electricity per year, the firm said in a statement. This energy is equivalent to supply about half of the city Arica or the equivalent of 25 000 families in the regional capital, he added.

The bill passed yesterday is in addition to the Aguila I solar plant of the same company, which this week began to operate and inject 2 MW to the system.

The vice president of business development E-CL, Alexander Lorenzini, explained that “with this approval, the company continues to move forward in achieving its goal of diversifying its energy matrix with innovative sustainable alternatives that take advantage of local conditions, thus contributing to regional and domestic development”, said the statement.
