While in the middle of activities aimed to replace older operations and the execution of expansion works that will boost their operations activities during second half of the year, Xstrata reported 18% drop in copper production during first half of year.

Xstrata reported a copper production drop to 354,612 tons from 434,046 obtained one year ago.
The company informed that this setback is the result of the transition status of mines like Ernest Henry in Australia to new deposits and expansion projects.

Production also experienced some drawbacks in the third largest copper mine in the world – Collahuasi – that went through extreme adverse weather conditions and stoppages because of safety and operational issues.

Consolidated coal production – key income source for Xstrata together with copper – increased 13% reaching 43.4 million tons during first half of year because coke and thermal coal improved during second quarter with respect to first months of the year.
