The U.S. company is planning an US$15 million investment in photovoltaic park

The Verano Capital company is considering to build solar panels in the 15 ha area surrounding La Compañía and Peralillo to inject 9MW/hour to the SIC system

The recently inaugurated solar park located at El Tambo injecting 1.2 MW/hour to SIC system will be adding this project that is expected to be built this year.

Lately the Valle de Elqui, specifically the Vicuña district, has become a development reference point for the renewable energies by making important contributions to the community in the area as well as to the whole country.

The U.S. company, Verano Capital, will invest US$15 million to build 3 parks in a 15 ha field located between La Compañía and Peralillo.

This new photovoltaic park will inject a total of 9 MW/hour for the Elqui community as specified by Dylan Rudney, President of Verano Capital. “Vicuña is the sun paradise for us, a real discovery, a perfect place for this kind of projects. We made some surveys and concluded that this is the ideal place to develop this type of renewable energy and carry out this business”, he stated.

The officer additionally said that most of the energy will be consumed in Vicuña and the surplus will be injected to SIC. “With this investment we will at least be producing clean energy for 30 years”, he detailed.

The project was submitted to the mayor of Vicuña, Rafael Vera, who pointed out the change the region is experiencing on this regard if one considers there is another project being developed in the Andean sector for geothermal energy generation. “This is a proof that newborn energies are being injected into the system. The main point is that these are clean, renewable and born-in-our-district energies. Having important entrepreneurs coming to Vicuña is very meaningful, not only for the investment but also for the work opportunities they bring to our neighborhoods”, the Mayor said.

Likewise, Verano Capital, through their CSR management explained they will be making different contributions to the community through the Vicuña municipality. The first of them will be the refurbishing of the Social Activities Center of the O’Higgins neighborhood, the district capital.
