Only 875 MW are under construction, while others 1,589 MW are already operating.

The portfolio of renewable energy projects in the country is growing rapidly. According to the latest survey of the Centre for Renewable Energy (CER) of CORFO, this already exceeds 16,000 MW, 11,052 MW already environmentally approved and 5,571 MW under evaluation”.

However, they are only under construction plants which will add 875 MW to the system, in a sample of the obstacles encountered by these initiatives to advance its development, particularly in terms of funding.

“As for the projects approved, in April six solar photovoltaic projects and a solar CSP favorably rated, totaling 358 MW, resulting in a portfolio of 11,052 MW of environmentally approved projects”, said from the CER.

Of the total NCRE Projects approved environmentally, 5,490 MW correspond to photovoltaic power plants, while wind plants added 4,337 MW. For projects under evaluation, 3,539 MW correspond to solar FV power plants and 1,664 to wind farms. Also, include 760 MW to concentrating solar power (CSP) tested and another 100 MW under evaluation that are added to 100 MW of CSP units currently under construction.

During April, entered three initiatives that EA have a total power of 98 MW equivalent. This corresponds to two solar parks of 58 MW and 40 MW wind farm, which portfolio environmental assessment projects currently reaches 5,571 MW.

In addition, the NCRE generation in April totaled 427 GWh, equivalent to 7.62% of the total injection power systems, down 6% on the month of March 2014, but 55% higher than April 2013, reported the dependent agency from CORFO.

“By contrast the figures for the same month last year, together to a major solar growth, a strong increase is observed in the injection of wind power, doubling its contribution to renewable mix,” added CER report.
