Partnership between Actis and Mainstream will allow viable a number of projects that already have environmental approval

Once given the green light to the Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) Law Reform, developer sector started moving to find ways to accelerate the realization of their projects, in order to achieve the proposed goal of share of renewables in the matrix of 20% to 2025.

One of those first movements is the recent partnership between Actis and Mainstream, the latter one of the companies with more wind and solar projects in the country, o form Aela Energy, which aims to realize, quickly, 600 MW in wind and solar plants.

The investment portfolio totaled U.S. $ 1,400 million, which is signaled by the players in this business as a “significant breakthrough for renewable energy in the country (…). The 600 MW involved in this agreement enter into an acceleration process in order to keep them operating within the next 36 months, with work teams dedicated exclusively to them. The rest of the portfolio follows its normal course of development, with the prospect of being able to continue providing sustainable and competitive energy for decades “, explained to PULSO, in a joint interview, the sales manager of Mainstream Energy, Daniel Canales, and the partner of Actis, Michael Till.

The fundamental point of this partnership, raises the executives, is to accelerate the realization of the investment portfolio by injecting resources needed to carry out the construction of those parks either wind or solar that would achieve the goal of 600 MW in a maximum of three years. We may qualify for better financing sources in various markets due to the high reputation and prestige that has Actis worldwide”, he adds.

Initiatives that Mainstream will transfer to Aela Energía will be those that are already ready to begin construction. These projects must be approved and resolved among other issues: resource studies, environmental approval, grid connection, land availability, community work, among others. With this partnership, Mainstream will be able to continue the development and monitoring of the projects in operation; not forget that Mainstream holds 40% stake Aela, said Till and Canales.

Regarding energy sources, in the first instance the aim is to develop, build and operate the 600 MW capacity with the main focus placed on wind and solar sources, but do not rule out “look at other generation technologies from renewable sources such as geothermal or hydro.”
