The SMA will add control of thermal emission standard

Mining plan will lead the supervision of the Superintendency of Environment (SMA) Plan for this year, the second of the institution since its entry into operation.

Through resolutions published by the agency it states that 31% of the 281 environmental permits to be reviewed this period corresponds to that sector.

Other industries that are part of this plan are environmental sanitation (25%), energy (13%), equipment, infrastructure and real estate (5%) Fishery (5%); several manufacturing facilities (4%), forest and agriculture (5%), others (12%).

These percentages are in line with the audits carried out in 2013 and are consistent with the areas of greatest breaches detected by the SMA in its first year of operation, the company explained.

The number of Environmental Qualification Resolution (CAR) considered in the program this year is lower than in 2013, as the superintendent left scope for complaints that are received by defaults, which last year totaled 1,500.-

In addition, they said, the human and financial resources will also be allocated to new control instruments to consider the body. It is the plan of prevention and remediation of the O’Higgins Region, in addition to those already existing in the Metropolitan Region and the cities of Temuco and Padre Las Casas.

Moreover, from this year the SMA should also monitor compliance with the emission standards for power plants, as well as specific plans for decontamination of industrial complexes such as Ventanas and Tocopilla, as well as the Caletones Casting from Codelco.
