Minera Collahuasi increase in 78% increase its production

Chilean copper production rose 0.9% in the first three months of the year, totaling 1.39 million metric tons (MT), according to Cochilco.

In such behavior were highly relevant the positive performances of Collahuasi and Anglo American Sur, who made the respective increases of 78% and 10.6%.

On the contrary, in the case of Escondida, controlled by BHP Billiton (57.5%), Rio Tinto (30%) and Jeco Corp (12.5%) – in January-March production contracted by 10.7%, totaling 272,800 MT. With these figures, the largest copper site in the world, reduced its share in the local market to 19.6%, compared to 22.2% who had obtained in 2013.

Codelco which is the largest producer worldwide-increased its production by only 0.2%, which was driven by rising 1.7% of Chuquicamanta-Radomiro Tomic.
