Industry and mining are the most that consumed energy in the country

Often the mistake of linking energy with saving power is committed. While this type of energy is one of the greatest weight in the country, are also very important liquid fuels, wood and others.
Who are the most energy-intensive? According to the 2020 Action Plan, industrial and mining sectors are the ones who have the greatest weight in reaching national energy consumption in 2011-latest available figure Tcal-100 326, followed by the transport sector reaching 32% of national consumption (87,189 Tcal ).
“In the commercial, public and residential sector energy consumption totaled 71,410 Tcal, representing 26% of the total. Finally, the energy consumption of the auto sector reached 5% of the total consumption of the country, “says the document.
Being both sectors of higher consumption, they are also the greatest potential to introduce efficiency measures. According to data provided by the Program of Energy Research and the University of Chile (Prien), “the industrial and mining sectors represents 50% of total national energy efficiency potential by 2020,” says the Chilean Agency for Energy Efficiency energy.
For each of these sectors a particular agenda was defined. In transport, one of the areas that attracted most attention by the Executive, a number of joint initiatives between the Ministries of Transport, Environment and Energy, in subjects such as the labeling of vehicles was developed, allowing a potential buyer one of these goods have all the information highway fuel consumption in city and mixed with CO2 emissions per kilometer, measured under laboratory conditions.
“This labeling seeks to provide information to the purchasing decision of users and encourage the use of vehicles that consume less fuel,” says the Ministry of Energy.-

Another important point was the creation of the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS, for its acronym in English), which establishes minimum requirements for devices marketed in the country, which is worked in full swing.
“The strategy MEPS are most successful energy saving in the developed world, both in terms of total savings and cost-effectiveness. Implementing this strategy in the country will be an important step in energy efficiency, and will make Chile-level economies such as the U.S., Canada and the European Union, which for several years have implemented this policy “, posed by the government.
Following the recent adoption of the MEPS’s rules, the Ministry of Energy is working on the establishment of the first minimum standards oriented to residential lighting.
Another noteworthy aspect is the creation of the Energy Efficiency Label, a recognition of the companies of transport, industry, mining, trade, financial services, construction and other sectors that have been a valuable development towards improving their performance in the energy consumption. “The goal is to identify and seal annually reward leading companies in the development of energy efficiency nationwide, allowing these initiatives reduce their energy costs, increase their competitiveness and reduce their emissions,” says the Ministry of Energy.-
