Endesa Chile provided an estimate of the associated construction cost Punta Alcalde thermoelectric complex that drives Enersis subsidiary in the region of Atacama.

Yesterday the finance manager of the electrical company, Fernando Gardeweg, led a conference call with analysts in which he reviewed the results of the company in 2013 and said to install the first unit of the two that bill, would involve a capex of U.S. $ 1,200 million.

The executive said that the first unit will inject 370 MW in the Central Interconnected System (SIC).

The figure drew attention, because until now, the official estimate of investment for 740 MW in total considering this initiative was $ 1,400 million, the amount that was stated in the Environmental Impact Study of the project.

The company explained that they have is the final amount of final investment, as it will be known “once awarded tenders for the construction of the plant” process, which the regional manager of Energy Planning Company said recently, Sebastian Fernandez, is in full swing.

Regarding the cost of the second unit, whose construction will depend on the electricity demand, in Endesa Chile said it should be much smaller than the first, since a large part of the investment will be implemented at the beginning and is related to items such as land acquisition, environmental studies, roads and much of the civil works, including the port that will receive the plants burn coal and fields where this fuel will store, which in this case will have a dome system to cover.

What would not be on this calculation is the transmission line connecting to the SIC, which is in environmental process, and the extent abatement that Endesa will install in one of the chimneys of CAP, the cost and percentage of contribution are under discussion by both firms.
