Chamber of Deputies approved the interconnection of the SIC and SING

Initiative would shift power from the north to the central system of the country. This would cost $ 700 million

By 89 votes in favor and one abstention, the Chamber of Deputies approved the bill that allows the interconnection of the Northern Interconnected System (SING) with the Central Interconnected System (SIC).

Thus, the bill sent in July took a new step in its path to becoming law. Now it should return to the Senate, which must decide on some changes introduced by the Commission of the Chamber of Mines in agreement with the Government.

“Let the third procedure indications which were adopted to improve the project, clarify and point out that the annual review is made, if proposed an interconnection line, either in a study of trunk transmission,” said Energy Minister Jorge Bunster, for this project.

The authority hopes the book will be seen in the coming days “for it to be law in January.”

With the release of this project, the minister would materialize energy’s agenda that was treated with the utmost urgency and which included the initiative to expedite the delivery of power concessions and encouraging the NCRE.

The interconnection between the two electrical systems in the country aims to reduce energy prices in some areas of Chile through the more efficient transfer from one system to another electricity.
According to estimates, the SIC-SING said junction would cost around U.S. $ 700 million. In turn, the line joining them would involve about 600 miles away.-
