Antofagasta Minerals recorded decline in copper production

1 agosto, 2013

Antofagasta Minerals’s copper production fell 1.9% in the second quarter

The minings of the group totaled a production of 180,300 tons of fine copper. The drop was due to a decline in Esperanza’s production due to scheduled maintenance Plant. Mining companies of Antofagasta Minerals’s group-mining subsidiary of Antofagasta PLC- registered a production of 180.300 tons of fine copper during second half, which represented a drop of 1,9% in comparison to same period of 2012.

“This decrease is explained by a decline in production of Esperanza due to scheduled maintenances of the plant, partially offset by increased production in Los Pelambres and El Tesoro” said the firm in a statement.

As announced by the Group, estimates copper production this year reached 700,000 tons.

The copper production in the first quarter, meanwhile, has been 364,100 tons.

For production and individual semi deposits controlled by Antofagasta Minerals, Los Pelambres produced 203,600 tons of copper, 90,100 tons of fine copper, El Tesoro reached 51,800 tons of cathode and Michilla registered 18.600 tons of cathode.

The Mining Group’s cash cost in the first half – excluding by-product credits, was U.S. $ 1.76 per pound of copper, 6.9% higher than the previous semester, which is partly explained by higher costs power in Los Pelambres.

In the first half, net cash cost was U.S. $ 1.26 per pound, 18% higher than the previous semester.
